CHINHOYI – THE 2022 Chibuku Road to Fame winners have launched their seven song
album called “Ngoma DzeGuruve”.
The album encompasses seven songs which are Ngoma dzeGuruve, Gum gum,
Kwahwenda, Kokwedu, Zongororo, Shalalaye and Ajogola.
In an interview with Telegraph, Duramazwi, also known as Reginald, explained the
meaning of the songs and the impact they have on the community.
“Gum gum is a campaign against gender based violence. In the song the woman is
crying and expressing her pain as she is being abused physically by her husband to the
extent that she is ordered to leave the house as if being hit every day is not enough.
“The second song Ajogola, is a love song, where the writer is in love with a lady named
Ajogola but she is seen as not worthy of being loved since people see her as a
prostitute ‘kahure hure’ due to her character, but the man is madly in love with her no
matter what people say and is ready to settle down with her,
“Kwahwenda is a jiti song that speaks about a man who decides to leave his home to
pursue his career in music. In the song the young man writes a letter to his mother
telling her that he has gone away and asks God to light his way in his journey,” he
explained.
“Kokwedu is a song full of deep expression of concern about the bad omen and
continuous misfortunes in the family and pleads with the ancestors to do something to
free the family from these bad omens.
“Shalalalaye is another love song that expresses the sting of one missing his or her
lover. It speaks of the desire of one partner to go meet their partner and sing happily like
they would always do when they meet.
“Zongororo speaks about tolerance and keeping the peace. People may get angry but
fighting is not always the solution, therefore, people sometimes need to practise
tolerance. The song serves to encourage people not to intimidate each other because
they end up in dire situations because not everyone is able to hold back,
“Lastly, the theme song, ‘Ngoma dzeGuruve’ is a song that celebrates the power of
music. It also communicates the continued existence of music and its impact across
generations. Music might have a beginning but it certainly has no definite end,” said
Duramazwi.
The launch was held at dotcom beerhall, Hillside, free of charge and everyone was
invited to celebrate this launch.

The guest artist for the Album launch was Romeo Gasa, a Sungura artist who is also a
product of the Chibuku Road to Fame competition.
The event was also graced by the Deputy Minister of Sports Recreation, Arts and
Culture, Emily Jesaya.
