CHIREDZI – Nine people died and at least 26 others injured following a smash between a passenger bus and a train at the Mutirikwi railway crossing in Triangle, Chiredzi, on Tuesday.
The accident involved a Makuku bus that was travelling from Chikombedzi to Chiredzi when it hit a train at the railway crossing under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Police, emergency services and rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene, where efforts to assist the injured and account for passengers were underway.
Initial reports indicate that nine people lost their lives in the tragic accident, while 26 others sustained injuries of varying severity.
The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Police have launched investigations into the cause of the collision, with more details expected as rescue and recovery operations continue.
