“No new Covid-19 case for Zim in three days”

Share

Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe has not recorded a new case of Covid-19 in the last three days after having tested over 1 500 samples and remains on four deaths, 28 confirmed cases and two recoveries.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care had on Thursday said the country now had 29 cases but later retracted saying officials had erroneously reported one more case as new in Bulawayo when in fact it was a re-test.

“The re-test was conducted in line with WHO (World Health Organisation) guidelines for confirming clinical recovery,” the Ministry later clarified.

“Therefore the positive result from Bulawayo was not for a new case.”

Data from the Health Ministry shows that since April 21 when the last new cases were recorded, the country has tested 1 528 new samples which were all negative for Covid-19.

A total of 5 867 tests have to date been carried out since the first case was recorded in late March.

In terms of recorded cases, 5 out of the country’s 10 provinces remain Covid-19 free with Harare leading the pack with 12 cases, followed by Bulawayo with 10, Mashonaland East with four while Mashonaland West and Matabeleland North both have one respectively.

Zimbabwe is currently in its second phase of a nationwide lockdown aimed at containing the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The first phase, which was for 21 days ended on April 20, while the second phase ends on May 3.
