Bulawayo, (New Ziana) – Police in Bulawayo have arrested a man from Nyamandlovu in connection with a motor vehicle theft case that occurred last month.
Bulawayo province deputy police spokesperson, Thandekile Ndlovu said the suspect had been identified as Mpho Ncube, (27), from Manondo Village of Nyamandlovu.
She said the suspect was apprehended following a tip off from members of the public while hiding at a local hotel.
“Police confirm the arrest of Mpho Ncube in connection with a case of theft of a motor vehicle which occurred on April 16, 2026, at around midnight,” said Ndlovu.
She explained that the suspect, together with his two accomplices who are still at large, allegedly hired a Honda Fit under the pretext of being transported to Pumula suburb.
“While en route to Pumula, the suspect and his accomplices allegedly hijacked the vehicle and dumped the driver, a 35-year-old man from Pumula Old,” Ndlovu explained.
A police report was subsequently filed, leading to investigations that resulted in the recovery of the stolen vehicle the following day.
“The motor vehicle was recovered abandoned at Emthunzini in Pumula South, Bulawayo,” she added.
Ndlovu said the breakthrough in the case came on May 4 when police received information about the suspect’s whereabouts.
“On May 4 at around 1AM, police received information that the suspect was at a local hotel in the Bulawayo Central Business District.
“Acting on the tip-off, officers proceeded to the location, identified the suspect, and effected his arrest,” she said.
Police also commended members of the public for their cooperation, which was crucial in bringing the suspect to justice.
“We appreciate members of the public for supplying valuable information that led to the arrest of the accused person. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are underway,” said Ndlovu.
