Nyanga Granted Town Status

NYANGA- The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has granted Nyanga a town
status with a board committee nomination process currently underway.
The other towns in the province are Chipinge, Rusape and Buhera.
Nyanga Rural District Council chief executive Dr Zefania Jaravaza said the town status would
spur growth and development in the district with a local authority putting structure to the revenue
collection and expenditure.
“With the coming in of a town board committee, expectations are that there would be accelerated
development and improved service delivery among other advantages. An administrative structure
with mandate to collect revenue and expend it locally will be noticed,” he said.
Located in the eastern parts of Zimbabwe, Nyanga boasts of top notch hotels, a national park and
various tourist attractions.
Dr Jaravaza said Nyanga has a district hospital, two private clinics, district police headquarters
and various Government departments in place.
New structures for the town will be constructed such as a government complex and upgrade of
road signage, developments expected to bring more investors.
A nomination process for members to compose the Town Board committee is currently
underway.
Dr Jaravaza also said Nyanga Rural District Council was self –sustaining especially because of
the timber industry and other natural resources that are abundant in the district.
He however bemoaned inaccessibility of most resort areas in the town and suggested the
development of an aerodrome in the area to make travelling to resorts easier for tourists.
