BANKET – NEWLY promoted Omnia Football Club has intensified its preparations for their
maiden season in the Northern Region Division 1 Soccer League (NRSL).
Omnia gained promotion last season after winning the Mashonaland West Division 2A (D2A)
championship as they were rewarded for their consistency throughout the season.
The Banket-based side has spent 14 years in Mashonaland West D2A but managed to break the
six-year jinx of ending the season a close second, gaining promotion last season into the much-
fancied Division 1 League under the guidance of outgoing coach Makereni Changwa.
Changwa said:This season I will not be on the touch line as I do not have the coaching
qualifications needed in D1."
He added that team management was open to hire another coach qualified for the job.
I am open to the idea of being on the technical bench so I can help the team and the incoming
coach in any way.
Changwa is hoping to further his coaching career and is seeking financial assistance to acquire
higher coaching qualifications.
I am appealing to well-wishers and Omnia team management to assist with funding to further
my coaching licence because my dream is to take Omnia to the Premier League and bring
premier league football to Banket.
Omnia team captain and goalkeeper, Bruce Iker Ngaaseke, said that their main target was to
finish above the relegation zone.
We are targeting to finish above the relegation zone, as its our first time to play in the NRDSL.
So, it will be a tough season but we are going to do whatever it takes to win the games,” he said.
The team has already started preparations for the upcoming season as they have started training
and are also conducting trials.
Everyone is invited for the trials. So far, we don't have any new signings.
We have started training and we are more than ready for the challenge,” said Ngaaseke
He urged the fans to come in their numbers to support the team.
“As for the fans, they know that we want them to be happy so they must come in their numbers
sezvavaingoita tiri mu D2.
We promise to kick it off from where we left, he said.
The Omnia captain has also set his own target for the team.
As a captain, I just want to lead the team to the top four and my target is to lift the league cup.
Omnia face a tough encounter in the first week as they will tackle a tricky Chinhoyi Stars at
Chinhoyi Stadium. This will be a David and Goliath fixture for the newly promoted boys.
The 2023 season will officially start on 18 March 2023.
