Bulawayo, (New Ziana)- The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), in collaboration with the United Nations country team and other various organisations will host the inaugural Monitoring and Evaluation and Learning (MEL) week, a senior official has said.
Special Advisor to President on Implementation of Government Programs Dr Joram Gumbo said this at the Mhlahlandlela government complex on Thursday.
He said the event is scheduled to run from July 28 to August 1 at the Rainbow Towers in Harare, adding President Mnangagwa and Vice President Constatino Chiwenga will grace the occasion.
The event will run under the theme, “Strengthening, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Towards Equitable Development for a Prosperous and Empowered Upper-Middle-Income Society by 2030”.
“The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Week seeks to foster a culture of data-driven governance and citizen-centric programming in pursuit of Vision 2030. The event offers a strategic platform for knowledge and experience exchange among practitioners in developing, planning, execution, and reporting,” he said.
Dr Gumbo stated that monitoring, evaluation, and learning are pivotal for implementing the National Development Strategy 1 and 2, and the Governing Performance Contracting System.
“Government therefore calls upon all stakeholders, including the media, to fully participate in this milestone event which reflects the nation’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and inclusive progress towards Vision 2030,” he said.
He said the event will take a multi-pronged approach as it will cover an exhibition on monitoring and evaluation by different practitioners, stakeholders, and organizations.
“It will also cover panel discussions on pertinent topics that strengthen monitoring and evaluation as a practice,” he said.
Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) are crucial processes for assessing the performance and effectiveness of programs, projects, and policies. It helps organizations track progress, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that intended results are achieved.
