TWO men appeared at the Gwanda Magistrates’ Court on allegations of killing a man in a revenge mission after assaulting one of them previously.
Michael Nkala (34) and Zwelinkosi Ndlovu (43) of house number 52 Section 5 Collen Bawn and Mabuze Village Mavako area under Chief Maduna respectively, appeared before Magistrate Dube Banda, charged with murder and attempted murder as defined in section 189 read with 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 09:23.
The pair was remanded in custody to February 2, 2024 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Allegations are that on January 6, 2024 at around 6pm accused persons Nkala and Ndlovu together with their accomplices, who are still at large met at Jason Moyo turn off and hatched a plan to attack Mgcini Mbaimbai, Anele Madenyika and their colleagues.
They were on a revenge mission of an assault which was committed against Ndlovu by Mbaimbai, Madenyika and their colleagues sometime in December 2023.
Nkala and Ndlovu armed themselves with knives, machetes, knobkerries, axes, sticks and spears before proceeding to Mbembesi Business Centre, where they met Madenyika.
They then charged towards him and started assaulting him using knives and machetes. Madenyika fell down and they continued assaulting him, during which he sustained deep cuts on the face and back of the head.
During the same day about two hours later, they spotted Mbaimbai and charged towards him.
Upon sight of a charging mob, Mbaimbai ran for dear life. The duo and one of the accomplices left the half dead Madenyika and started chasing Mbaimbai who ran and sought refuge at Charity Moyo’s place.
They forced open the door and started assaulting Mbaimbai with their knives and machetes. As a result, he fell down and succumbed to death.
Upon their arrest they were found with incriminating evidence, being a stolen radio.
They then led police to recover their blood-stained clothes which they were putting on when they committed the offences.
They also led police to the recovery of two blood stained knives which were used in the commission of the offences.
