‎Harare, (New Ziana) -The embassy of the State of Palestine in Zimbabwe has strongly condemned the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, for passing new legislation which permits the execution of Palestinian prisoners, describing the move as a serious breach of international law and justice.

‎In a statement on Tuesday, Palestinian ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri said the law represents a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law” and undermines fundamental legal protections guaranteed under global conventions.

‎”The Embassy of the State of Palestine condemns and rejects the Israeli Knesset’s passage of legislation permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners.

“‎This law represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a grave assault on the fundamental principles of justice and a clear breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention, specifically regarding the protections of individuals and the right to a fair trial, as well as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR),” he said.

Dr Almassri warned that the legislation amounts to “a tool of political persecution” and could constitute a war crime under international jurisdiction.

‎He argued that the law is part of a broader pattern of escalating Israeli policies across the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

‎According to Dr Almassri, the decision reflects an attempt to legitimize what it described as extrajudicial killings, calling the move “a reflection of moral depravity that violates all universal human values.”

‎”These actions will not break the will of the Palestinian people nor undermine their steadfastness in their legitimate struggle for freedom, independence, and the establishment of a sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital,” he said.

Dr Almassri also called on the international community to intervene, urging governments and institutions to uphold their legal and humanitarian obligations.

‎He appealed for immediate steps to halt the implementation of the law, hold Israeli authorities accountable for alleged violations against detainees, and impose sanctions in response to what it described as ongoing practices of torture and extrajudicial killings within the Israeli prison system.
