Harare (New Ziana) – The Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals is working to improve service delivery including provision of medicines to patients, an official said on Tuesday.

The comments come in the wake of a letter that medical doctors under the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) allegedly wrote to management expressing concerns over the deteriorating conditions at the facility.

Some of the issues the doctors allegedly raised included dwindling stocks of basic drugs such as antibiotics and even Paracetamol.

But Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals spokesperson Linos Dhire downplayed the issue, saying like any other organization, the health facility was facing its own challenges and was doing everything to address them.

“Like any organisation anywhere in the world we are having our own challenges and everything possible is being done for continuous improvement, and our doctors are some of our key stakeholders whom we meet regularly and discuss pertinent issues with,” he said in an interview with New Ziana.

Dhire however confirmed that the hospital authorities had received the letter from the doctors.

“The platform for engagement with national associations such as ZHDA is provided for through the Health Services Board. The association was advised as such,” he said.

He said the doctors did not show up for a meeting to discuss the issues when they were susbsequently invited.

“Only two of the representatives turned up for the meeting. The two were advised to get representatives from all the departments in the hospital for a proper meeting to be held and so that issues could be clarified to all the junior doctors,” he said.

Dhire said up to now the representatives have not returned as a team for the meeting with the hospital management.
