Harare, (New Ziana) – Parliament announced on Wednesday its library was disposing of old books and other related material, and invited educational and archival establishments to collect anything of interest among this, free of charge.
“The Parliament of Zimbabwe Library has embarked on the disposal of obsolete library books and ephemeral material that no longer meets the needs of its clientele. We are kindly inviting all interested stakeholders from Schools, Libraries, the National Archives, Government departments and any other social institutions that require reading materials to visit our Old Parliament Library, Kwame Nkrumah and 3rd Street, for the collection of library book donations from our multidisciplinary weeded collection which includes physical books, journals, reports, bulletins, pamphlets, leaflets and brochures as will be presented,” it said.
Collection of the donated material will run from April 16 to May 9 this year at Old Parliament Library on Kwame Nkruma Avenue and Third Street in Harare.
Parliament said this will be done daily from 9am to 12pm, excluding public holidays, on a first-come first-served basis.
It said the initiative aims to repurpose outdated but still valuable materials for institutions in need.
“Our multi-disciplinary collection may no longer serve parliamentary research needs, but it remains useful for schools, libraries, and other organisations,” it said.
