Masvingo (New Ziana) –Farmers have been warned against abusing the Presidential Inputs scheme, commonly known as the Pfumvudza/Intwasa, which is aimed at boosting national food security.
Cases of people selling the inputs have been reported in some parts of the country while some officials were accused of favouritism in distributing the inputs last year.
Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira said those who would be caught on the wrong side of the law would be made to face the music.
The province has distributed maize seed inputs to 309 066 households and is targeting to reach out to 326 046 households.
“Presidential inputs are given to every household regardless of their political affiliation. To those who sell those inputs instead of ploughing, the government has set up a committee that looks into the distribution of the inputs,” he said.
“Those who will be found selling the inputs, that is the work for the police, to arrest the offenders so that they will be prosecuted.”
Meanwhile, under the Cotton Pfumvudza/Intwasa scheme, the province has so far put 249 hectares under the crop.
