Harare, (New Ziana) – Police have arrested Vengesai Jabulani Mutasa (41) following a violent rampage that left Constable Courage Muchechesi dead, and another officer seriously injured in Sanyati.

National police spokesman, Paul Nyathi said Mutasa allegedly fatally shot Constable Muchechesi at Sanyati police station before robbing a civilian of US$5 as he fled the scene.

‎”The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Vengesai Jabulani Mutasa (41) after the callous and brutal shooting to death of Constable Courage Muchechesi at ZRP Sanyati.

‎”The suspect had shot Detective Constable Ngwenya of CID Homicide who was part of a team trying to arrest him in connection with the murder of businessman Joseph Mutangadura in August 2025,” said commissioner Nyathi.

‎Mutasa’s arrest came after swift coordination between police officers and members of the public across Sanyati, Kadoma, Chakari and Patchway.

‎Nyathi commended the local communities for their courage and cooperation, which was instrumental in apprehending the suspect.

‎”The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends members of the public in Sanyati, Kadoma, Chakari, and Patchway who quickly mobilized and assisted to effect an arrest on the suspect,” he said.

‎He also assured the nation that more details about the case would be released in due course as investigations continue.

‎Constable Muchechesi’s death adds to growing concerns about the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.

Police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for the slain officer and his injured colleague.
