Police commend Zimbabweans for peaceful voting

Harare (New Ziana) -The Police has commended the voting public for remaining calm on Wednesday while the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission was experiencing some logistical challenges in some areas.

Some polling stations in Harare and Bulawayo opened as late as 4 PM after ZEC delayed to deliver ballot papers for thye local authority elections.

Zimbabweans were on Wednesday voting for the Presidency, Parliament and local authority representatives for the next five years.

While giving an update on the general security situation since voting started across the country, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the law enforcement angents were liaisng with ZEC.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports that since the opening of polling stations at 0700 hrs across the country, the situation is calm and peaceful.

ZEC has since said those polling stations that opened late would remain open for the duration of the delay.

Voting was supposed to take 12 hours starting from 7 AM and ending at 7 PM, after which counting of ballots woud commence, and the results would be posted outside the poling stations.
