Harare (New Ziana)-The Zimbabwe Republic Police has opened investigations into allegations of drug abuse at Dominican Convent High School following the expulsion of eight students on Thursday.
The students allegedly took illicit drugs during a recent trip to Nyanga earlier this month.
On Thursday, the school said more students could be expelled if implicated by ongoing investigations into the scandal.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told New Ziana that investigations had been opened.
“The school has openly communicated to the whole world that they have expelled eight students in relation to drug abuse cases. Surely the police have to move in and conduct investigations.
“Police officers had gone to the school because from the onset, the school authorities I am told they were not cooperating. We are conducting investigations, not only at the school, even where the students are coming from, where they stay, even their associates and peers. We really want to find out what is happening,” he said.
Zimbabwe is experiencing a problem of drug and substance abuse with young people being the most affected.
