Harare, (New Ziana) – A total of 531 robbery suspects have been arrested across the country from January to August 21, 2025, with 206 of these convicted, police have said.

In a statement on Wednesday, police said efforts have been intensified to combat armed robbery, leading to the recent arrest of several high-profile suspects.

“Among them are Tinashe Nikomo, also known as Sadamu or Jeck (39), Future Moyo (35), Decent Moyo (35), Obey Chiware (38), Wiseman Muleya (30), Tendal Mapira (45), Khumbulani Mabhena (42), and Admire Charumbira (36), who were apprehended in Beitbridge. In a separate operation in Harare, police arrested Wellington Chamunorwa (35) and Jacob Sibanda, also known as Shumba,” police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said.

He warned private security companies against publishing unconfirmed crime statistics.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that it has a constitutional mandate of investigating all the armed robbery cases and publicising the statistics if need be.

“Private security companies, individuals or syndicates have no mandate to give national statistics on the security and safety situation in the country as this causes confusion, alarm and panic,” said Nyathi.

In response to the rising number of armed robbers, police urge the public to avoid keeping too much cash at home.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is currently on a drive to conduct awareness campaigns at corporate level, church level, community level, family level and individual settings for the people to remain alert and avoid keeping large sums of money at home or business premises,” said Nyathi.
