Harare, (New Ziana) – Police have released the names of five people who perished in a horrific road traffic accident along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road on 24 October 2025, as authorities renew calls for drivers to exercise caution on the country’s highways.
The crash occurred at the 73-kilometre peg when a haulage truck loaded with cement rammed into the back of a Toyota Hiace carrying 12 passengers.
The violent impact claimed the lives of five occupants, including the driver of the commuter omnibus, while eight others sustained serious injuries.
National police spokesman, Paul Nyathi confirmed that the deceased have since been identified by their next of kin, and are kombi driver Takunda McGregor Ndoro (29) of Mt Pleasant Heights, Harare, Juliet Chikasha (58) of Southlea Park in Harare, Juliet Makunike (25) of Burma Valley in Mutare, Taurai Manyewu (51) of Epworth and Muzonda Marumbei (94) of Nyamande Village in Buhera
The injured passengers were rushed to Murambinda Hospital.
Meanwhile, Nyathi said police are investigating a separate fatal crash that occurred on 26 October 2025, along the Harare-Masvingo Road near Mvuma. The accident took place at the 192-kilometre peg after the driver of a Nissan Caravan travelling towards Harare lost control of the vehicle before it overturned twice and landed on its left side, killing two people on the spot and injuring four others.
He expressed concern over the rising road carnage and reiterated police call for motorists to prioritise safety on the roads to prevent further loss of life.
