Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police said on Monday it will ensure strict adherence to revised Covid-19 guidelines the government announced at the weekend to curb the spread of the virus.

Government on Saturday noted that complacency was responsible for the resurgence of Covid-19, with the country having recorded over 500 new cases in the past week.

As a result revised regulations which included new operating times for business and a ban on public gatherings were put in place.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police advises the public that the enforcement of government’s revised Covi-19 lockdown measures on health and security as announced on June 12, 2012 will be done without fear or favour,” the police said.

Patrols will be enhanced to ensure bottle stores operate according to set times and that beer halls and night clubs remain closed.

“All those found drinking at bottle stores, inside vehicles and surrounding areas will be arrested,” the police said.

Announcing the new Covid-19 measures, Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, said people must continue to properly wear their masks when in public, sanitise as well as social distance.

Surveys have revealed some people have abandoned use of masks when in public while overcrowding is common in most public places without adherence to social distancing rules.
