Rushinga (New Ziana) – The Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has donated 100 laptop computers to five schools in Rushninga, Mashonaland Central Province, as part of government-led efforts to bridge the information gap between rural and urban students.

For several years now, the government has been electrifying and computerising rural schools to enable them to have access to the internet and other sources of learning material, to bring them closer to modern educational trends in urban schools.

POTRAZ’s donation went to Chomutukutu Primary and Secondary, Gwangwava Secondary, Masvaire and Magaranhewe primary schools, located near the border with Mozambique.

Director-General of the organisation, Gift Machengete said POTRAZ supported government’s computerisation drive in schools, and would play its part to assist wherever possible.

He was speaking at Chomutukutu High School where the donations, made in collaboration with the First Lady’s Angel of Hope Foundation, for all the five schools were made from.

He said information and communication technology was key in modern education, and therefore it was important for all school children to have access to it.

“I am urging all pupils to use these computers wisely, research all the information they need at any given time as a way to obtain better grades,” Machengete said.
