Harare,  (New Ziana) – The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) on Monday strengthened its social impact footprint with a donation of 15 wheelchairs to St Giles Rehabilitation Centre, marking yet another milestone in the its ongoing efforts to support persons with disabilities across the country.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Harare, POTRAZ director general Dr Gift Machengete said the gesture was an investment in dignity, independence, and human potential.

He said the wheelchairs were procured through proceeds from the annual POTRAZ Charity Golf Tournament, an event he said blends sport, fellowship, and purpose.

While the tournament offers networking opportunities, he emphasized that its true value lies in transforming lives through acts of compassion.

Dr Machengete commended corporates and individuals who participated in and sponsored the tournament, noting that their collective generosity demonstrates the transformative power of unity.

“Your generosity and partnership continue to demonstrate the power of unity and shared responsibility in driving social progress,” he said.

He underscored that the wheelchairs represent more than assistive devices as they symbolize restored mobility, freedom, and dignity for beneficiaries.

For some children, he said, the wheelchairs will unlock educational opportunities, while others will gain easier access to therapy, healthcare, and social interaction.

Dr Machengete also commended management and staff of St Giles Rehabilitation Centre for their dedication to rehabilitation and empowerment, noting that their work restores hope and independence to many Zimbabweans who might otherwise be forgotten.

He expressed confidence that the wheelchairs would bring comfort and enable fuller participation beneficiaries and their families in daily life.

The event reaffirmed the dedication of POTRAZ to an inclusive society where every Zimbabwean, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to move, participate, and thrive.
