Harare, (New Ziana) -The construction of own offices by the Procurement Regulatory Authority (PRAZ) marks a bold step in strengthening procurement systems, enhancing transparency as well as driving institutional efficiency, going beyond just building a physical structure, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said on Friday.
He was officiating at the ground breaking ceremony of the PRAZ head office in Harare.
VP Chiwenga said the project, which will be completed in the next 18 months, underscores the unwavering commitment of the government to sustainable development and innovation as it strives to build a modern, forward-looking country.
“This new head office will not only provide a professional and efficient working environment for staff, but it will also stand as a symbol of the values that PRAZ upholds, integrity, accountability, and good governance.
“Let me take this opportunity to emphasize that this project is being financed through public resources, taxes paid by the hardworking citizens of Zimbabwe. With that in mind, it is our duty to ensure that every dollar is spent judiciously and in a way that delivers maximum value to the public,” he said.
He said the building should not only fulfil its functional role but also embody Zimbabwe’s collective commitment to responsible governance and sustainable development, adding that he was particularly pleased in that the design of the new facility incorporates sustainability principles whilst incorporating energy-efficient technologies.
“In an era where climate consciousness is no longer optional but essential, this project reflects our forward-thinking approach. It will serve as a lasting testament to our responsibility not just to current generations, but to those who will inherit the Zimbabwe of tomorrow,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, PRAZ chief executive officer Clever Ruswa said the project was not only a pivotal step in PRAZ’s organisational journey, but also a commitment to transparency, efficiency and excellency in public procurement.
He said the structure will be partially funded by PRAZ and the government, and will serve as a symbol of the dedication in enhancing governance and service delivery in the country.
Referring to the incorporation of energy efficient technologies, Ruswa said they were taking significant strides towards reducing the carbon footprint and promoting eco-friendly practices within the public sector.
“This building will not only be a hub of innovation, but also a beacon of our commitment to a greener, more sustainable Zimbabwe. Together, let us not just build a structure, but a legacy of integrity and progress for our nation,” he said.
