Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday dismissed the Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Dr Sithembiso Gile Gladys Nyoni with immediate effect.
No reasons were given for the dismissal, and no replacement was immediately appointed.
Dr Nyoni was one of the country’s longest-serving cabinet ministers, who had held many portfolios over the years.
Her longest, and probably most successful, cabinet post was that for small businesses where she set up organised trading spaces for informal traders, particularly craftsmen, and instilled business ethics in them.
In the portfolio, she also managed to mainstream some informal traders and businesses into the country’s tax system.
So successful was Dr Nyoni that at one point Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni requested Dr Nyoni to impart her small business administration knowledge and skills to his government officials in the east African country.
