President Mnangagwa appoints new Cabinet

Harare (New Ziana)-Following his re-election last month, President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday named his new Cabinet in which he kept faith in a number of Ministers, as he seeks to complete critical projects that he started in his first term.

Of note, President Mnangagwa retained Prof Mthuli Ncube in charge of the renamed Ministry of Finance and Investment Promotion, Professor Amon Murwira in Higher and Tertiary Education and Dr Anxious Masuka at Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development as he ran with the theme of continuity.

Others retained include Dr Frederick Shava, Oppah Muchinguri and Olympian Kirsty Coventry who kept their respective portfolios of Foreign Affairs and Defence and Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture.

President Mnangagwa appointed former Health and Childcare deputy Minister Douglas Mombeshora to head the Ministry, taking over from Vice President General (Rtd) Constantino Chiwenga who was doubling in that portfolio.

Mombeshora once served as deputy to Dr David Parirenyatwa in the same Ministry a few years back.

Former Energy and Power Development Minister Soda Zhemu has been moved to Mines, where he will be deputised by former deputy Primary and Secondary Education Minister Edgar Moyo, who returns to the position he once held.

Zhemu replaces Winston Chitando, who was moved to Local Government, replacing July Moyo who becomes Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister in place of Professor Paul Mavima, who was re-assigned to Skills Audit and Development.

Former Tourism deputy Minister Barbra Rwodzi will now take charge of the Ministry, deputised by Tongai Mnangagwa, while Monica Mutsvangwa leaves the Information portfolio to former Information Communication Technology Development Minister Jenfan Muswere.

Mutsvangwa moves to Women Affairs and SMEs, while her husband, Christopher Mutsvangwa, takes charge of the Ministry of Veterans of Liberation.

President Mnangagwa named former Studio 263 actress Tatenda Mavetera as the new ICT Minister while also naming former Women Affairs and SMEs Minister Sithembiso Nyoni the new Industry and Commerce Minister, replacing Dr Sekai Nzenza who failed to make it back to Parliament after losing in the Zanu PF primaries.

Torerayi Moyo, the former chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Primary and Secondary Education, is the new Minister of that portfolio, replacing Evelyn Ndlovu who has been re-assigned as the Matabeleland South Provincial Minister.

Former deputy minister of Sports, ino Machakaire was appointed to the new Ministry of Youth Empowerment.
