Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed trustees for the Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust (ZMMT), the government announced on Wednesday.

The ZMMT is mandated to manage state media and related companies outside the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.

In a statement, Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting
Services permanent secretary, Nick Mangwana said the trust was chaired by
Honour Piniel Mkushi, and includes Thomas Sithole, Patience Gawe, Charity
Charamba, Phatisani Nyathi and Prof. Ngwabi Bhebhe as trustees.

The ZMMT, whose media empire includes New Ziana and Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980)Pvt Ltd, was formed in the early 1980s but had been dormant for more than a decade.

Over the years, its media empire experienced mixed fortunes, with some units such as Zimpapers growing and diversifying exponentially, while others like Kingstons Holdings hovered on the brink of bankruptcy.

Mangwana said the appointment, which took effect on February 10, was in accordance with the Mass Media Trust founding deed of 1985 and its amendment.

Mkushi also chaired the previous board of trustees.
