HARARE, (New Ziana) — President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the construction of a world-class 10,000-seater cricket stadium in Victoria Falls, a move expected to significantly boost Zimbabwe’s sporting infrastructure and tourism appeal.
Speaking at the launch of the Zimbabwe Tourism and Hospitality Industry Policy at State House on Monday, President Mnangagwa declared his full support for the stadium project, which is currently underway in the Masuwe Special Economic Zone.
“Government commends the ongoing work on the 10,000-seater Cricket Stadium in the Masuwe Special Economic Zone in Victoria Falls. “If it doesn’t come out well, it is not my fault — ask that one,” gesturing to Tourism Minister Barbra Rwodzi. “I told her I will support her with whatever she imagines is needed,” he said.
The Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium is one of Zimbabwe Cricket’s flagship infrastructure projects and is central to the country’s preparations to co-host two major global sporting tournaments: the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, both alongside Namibia and, in the latter case, South Africa.
The Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency, a state-owned entity under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, is leading the construction as the main contractor.
More than just a cricket ground, the stadium is designed as a multi-purpose facility capable of hosting a range of sporting and entertainment events, positioning Victoria Falls as a key hub for both sport and tourism.
Situated within the broader Masuwe SEZ, the stadium is part of a sweeping masterplan that includes a convention centre, luxury hotels and villas, a golf estate, a medical tourism centre, a commercial CBD, an international services centre, and upmarket residential developments.
The government sees these developments as transformative, with the potential to unlock new economic opportunities, attract international investment, and cement Victoria Falls as a premier destination for global events.
With work steadily progressing, the Mosi-oa-Tunya stadium is fast becoming a symbol of Zimbabwe’s ambition to modernise its infrastructure and leverage sport and tourism as engines for sustainable growth.
