Harare, (New Ziana) –President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday condemned what he described as an unfortunate and retrogressive trend in which some party members exhibit “chameleon-like” behavior, acting as willing accomplices to detractors in an attempt to tarnish the party’s revolutionary legacy.
He said this while addressing the 125th ordinary session of the ZANU PF Central Committee at the party headquarters in Harare.
President Mnangagwa, who is also ZANU PF’s First Secretary, expressed dismay that, 45 years after defeating the Rhodesian settler regime, a small fraction of individuals continues to pursue selfish interests and misguided ambitions.
“Their actions are an affront to the party’s principles and severely damage our country’s image, as well as the gains of our liberation struggle. These rogue opportunists will soon face the consequences of their deeds,” he said.
“To be a leader in our revolutionary mass party, ZANU PF is never an entitlement or a right,” he added.
He commended the party and the peace-loving nation for standing firm against the treasonous acts of indiscipline.
President Mnangagwa assured citizens that state security infrastructure remains fully operational to safeguard property and ensure the safety of all Zimbabweans, urging the public to continue with their daily activities without fear.
He called on the Central Committee members to remain vigilant in upholding party discipline, which he said is being undermined by the misuse of social media platforms.
A social media policy is under consideration to regulate and govern the party’s digital communications and activities, he said.
“In line with Article 7, Section 9, the Central Committee must continue exercising its authority to ensure that all members adhere to party rules, regulations, and procedures. I applaud the party for its decisive and timely move to strengthen our policy frameworks and code of conduct,” he said.
Shifting focus to development, President Mnangagwa highlighted the ZANU PF-led government’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and responsive governance, emphasizing efforts to address public concerns.
He noted the significance of the Central Committee meeting, coming as the first five-year National Development Strategy nears completion and the party is intensifying the implementation of key programs and projects.
“Thanks to your dedication, guidance, and sound counsel, the party continues to achieve milestones in fulfilling the resolutions of our defining conference.
“In all our endeavors, we must redirect our focus toward enhancing production, productivity, and increasing household incomes, particularly for those at the grassroots level,” he said.
The Central Committee meeting follows the 328th Ordinary Session of the Politburo, which was held on Wednesday.
