Harare (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday led the first national clean-up day of 2020 in Harare’s high density suburb of Kuwadzana.

The clean-up day is held on the first Friday of every month.

President Mnangagwa cleaned the area around Kuwadzana 2 shopping centre.

Addressing residents after the clean-up, President Mnangagwa said as proud citizens of the country, people should always maintain a clean environment.

He urged Zimbabweans to remain united in order to surmount the current economic hardships and western sponsored aggression in the form of Western sanctions.

“We must all desire to build our country and not destroy it,” he said.
“We want peace, we do not like violence, we do not want destruction of property.”

While he was addressing, residents took the opportunity to air some of the challenges they were facing including high cost of basic goods and commodities and school fees.

“School fees Mr President is now expensive,” a resident in the crowd shouted.

The President responded saying that government would look into the matter to ensure that school fees remained affordable.

On prices of basic goods, President Mnangagwa said government had subsidised some goods including cooking oil, mealie-meal and sugar to ensure affordability.
