President Mnangagwa makes key CIO appointments

Harare, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday appointed two senior officials to the country’s main security arm, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda said
Retired Brigadier Walter Tapfumaneyi and Dr Gatsha Mazithulela had, with immediate effect, both been appointed to the positions of Deputy Director General in the CIO.

Rtd Brig Gen Tapfumaneyi is a former assistant director in the President’s
Department and has held various positions in government including that of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, former Political Detainees’ and Restrictees.

“He is a veteran of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle,” said Dr Sibanda.

Dr Mazithulela is a renowned scientist and a former Pro-Vice
Chancellor at the National University of Science and Technology.

He is currently the chairman of the National Authority of the Chemical
Weapons Convention, Zimbabwe Chapter.

The appointments are part of staff re-alignment in some key government
departments and organs to drive the agenda of the Second Republic.
