Harare, (New Ziana) – Outgoing Angolan ambassador to Zimbabwe, Agostinho Tavares, bade farewell to President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday, marking the end of his five-year posting to the country.
After a closed-door meeting with President Mnangagwa, Tavares told journalists that he had expressed deep affection for Zimbabwe, describing it as his “second home” and stating that he would gladly serve in the country again if given the opportunity.
He highlighted the flourishing bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Angola, rooted in a shared history of liberation struggles and mutual solidarity.
“It was during my term that we signed a significant bilateral cooperation agreement encompassing 11 key areas, including cultural exchange, sports development, and education,” he said.
“These agreements have laid a strong foundation for deeper collaboration between our two nations.”
Tavares praised President Mnangagwa’s leadership, particularly in his role as the current Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), stating: “As I bid farewell, I assured His Excellency that SADC is in good hands under his stewardship.”
He said President Mnangagwa wished him success in his next diplomatic assignment as Angola’s envoy to Cape Verde.
