Kwekwe, (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has paid tribute to the late music icon and educationist, Bob Nyabinde, who was laid to rest in Kwekwe on Tuesday.

Nyabinde died on Friday last week after a long battle with diabetes. He was 68 years old.

Nicknamed the headmaster in musical circles, Nyabinde produced some famous songs, among them the “Chabuda hapana” chart topper.

Apart from music, he was also an educationist of note.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, July Moyo, represented President Mnangagwa at the funeral and presented the family with $500 on his behalf.

Moyo himself, and Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Owen Ncube gave the family US$500 each for use during the funeral.

“President Mnangagwa has sent me to represent him since he is officiating at another function. He, however, provided $500 in cash, and Minister Ncube and I will also contribute $500 each to support the Nyabinde family,” said Moyo.

He commended Nyabinde, whom he was related to, for his contribution to the music industry dating back several years.

His death comes a few months before the launch of his biography, compiled by journalist Munyaradzi Huni. This will be launched in March next year to coincide with what should have been Nyabinde’s 69 birthday.

Several musicians attended the funeral on a rainy Tuesday in Kwekwe. Nyabinde was interred next to his late wife, Margaret, who died in 2007.
