Bindura (New Ziana) – Inputs for this year’s summer cropping season will be availed timeously while adequate support will be rendered to farmers to ensure a bumper harvest, President Emerson Mnangagwa pledged on Saturday.
President Mnangagwa said this in the backdrop of a hugely successful 2019/2021 farming season buoyed by the government led Pfumvudza farming scheme.
Adequate rains and timeous unveiling of inputs under various schemes including the Presidential Input scheme among other government strategies helped the country to a record cereal output.
To keep up the trend, President Mnangagwa, who is a farmer of repute, rallied others to ensure a bumper harvest for the country.
“Let us all work hard to ensure another bumper harvest. The party and government will ensure that the delivery of inputs under the Presidential input support scheme is speeded up,” he said while closing the 19th Zanu PF annual national people’s conference which was being held in Bindura.
“Our land today is more productive than it was under colonial rule because the Second Republic is capacitating the people to be productive.”
President Mnangagwa said his government was implementing strategies to ensure a strong agriculture value chain.
One of the strategies included setting up beneficiation plants in rural communities such as the Mutoko tomato processing plant which he commissioned recently.
“As party and government we are going beyond agriculture and facilitating value chain development and beneficiation of all our produce. We are setting up rural industry systems and infrastructure, under the Second Republic and in this new development era programs are being implemented to comprehensively modernise and make rural areas more attractive to live and work in,” he said.
“No one can stand in our way to develop our country because a country, as we always say is built by its own people. It is about the economy, we are going beyond the land to ensure its full utilisation for national food security.”
