Harare, (New Ziana) –President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday called on his ruling Zanu PF party to refocus its energies on improving the welfare of Zimbabweans and ensuring that its structures and activities remain people-centred, efficient, and free from factionalism.

Speaking during the 384th Ordinary Session of the Politburo in Harare, President Mnangagwa who is the First Secretary of ZANU PF, emphasised the need for the ruling party to be more responsive to the social and economic challenges affecting ordinary citizens.

“It was disheartening that the situation at the Hospitals was allowed to deteriorate,” he said, referring to his recent tour of public hospitals in Harare.

“Blame-shifting will not get us anywhere. We must learn from our shortcomings and work hand-in-hand, as the public sector, private sector and individuals, to build our country.”

President Mnangagwa acknowledged the efforts of public workers operating under difficult conditions and reaffirmed government commitment to improving their working environment.

While recognising the recent by-election victories in Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland as a sign of popular support, President Mnangagwa warned against complacency and urged the party to intensify grassroots mobilisation.

“Loop-holes and excesses, which may put the Party in danger of stagnation or a waning support-base, should be decisively plugged,” he said, also sounding a strong warning against internal power struggles.

“All Party verification, mobilisation or restructuring exercises should be leveraged to consolidate popular support for the Party’s governance and not that of cliques and individuals. Musangano hawusi musangano wezvigaro. Kwete! (the party is not about positions. No!),” he said.

He urged party structures to embody integrity, discipline, and accountability and stressed that loyalty to the Party must be grounded in service to the people, not personal ambition.

The ZANU PF youth and grassroots wings were also reminded of their central role in sustaining the legacy of the party.

“These cardinal principles should be passed on and on, to old and new members, particularly the young people of our Party,” said President Mnangagwa.

Beyond internal party matters, President Mnangagwa highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects as proof of Zimbabwe’s resilience and capacity for innovation.

Citing the construction of the Trabablas Traffic Interchange using local resources under sanctions, he said the project is a source of great national pride and proof that nothing is impossible when Zimbabweans are united and focused.

On the international front, President Mnangagwa celebrated Zimbabwe’s enduring ties with liberation movements such as FRELIMO, Chama Cha Mapinduzi, and the Communist Party of China, calling for deeper party-to-party collaborations.

As preparations for the National People’s Conference get underway, President Mnangagwa encouraged meticulous planning and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to peace, unity, and development.

“Let us shun tags, labels and tendencies that sow disunity, regionalism and misplaced narratives,” he said.

He paid tribute to the country’s fallen heroes, including the recently departed Cde Luke Joboringo Mushore, and called on ZANU PF to honour their legacy by becoming a bigger, stronger and more united revolutionary, colossal party.
