Harare (New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday received a special envoy from Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi, who briefed him on various issues, including the security situation in that country.
President Mnangagwa received the envoy in his capacity as chair of the Southern African Development Community’s Organ on Politics, Defence and Security.
President Mnangagwa told the media that the meeting centred on the security situation in the DRC and the global Covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s a special envoy from my brother President Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo briefing me on the situation in the DRC in particular in relation to the current Covid-19 pandemic (and) how they are tackling it,” he said.
The DRC has recorded over 900 Covid-19 cases since registering its first case in March.
“(The envoy) also (briefed me) on the security situation in the DRC as well as a programme where the DRC and Zambia would want the Organ on Defence and Politics to look at a small matter which is existing between the Republic of Zambia and the DRC.”
