Harare, (New Ziana) — President Emmerson Mnangagwa is next Tuesday expected to present the State of the Nation Address (SONA), and officially open the new session of Parliament.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda announced this on Thursday. He said President Mnangagwa is expected to outline the legislative agenda for the new session Parliament in his address.
This will mark the official opening of the Fourth Session of the 10th Parliament.
The last SONA was delivered last October at the same venue during the official opening of the Third Session of the 10th Parliament.
In that address, President Mnangagwa projected 6.6 percent economic growth for 2025 despite sanctions, anchored on agriculture, mining, manufacturing and tourism.
He highlighted record maize, wheat and tobacco yields attributed to the government’s Agriculture, Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy, and the Pfumvudza / Intwasa Input Assistance Programme which empowered over three million households, and irrigation expansion from 151,000 hectares in 2019 to 221,000 hectares.
The Rural Development borehole programme, and modernisation of the Grain Marketing Board with 14 AI driven silo sites adding 750,000 tonnes capacity, were other factors that contributed to the success in the agricultural industry.
In 2025, President Mnangagwa also announced accelerated issuance of bankable title deeds for A1 and A2 farmers to unlock private finance for agriculture, and reduce food imports, and stressed greater value addition for agricultural and mineral commodities.
On legislation, he urged Parliament to expedite outstanding Bills including the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill, the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Bill and the Insurance and Pensions Amendment Bill, among others.
The upcoming address is expected to review progress on those targets and set the legislative agenda for the new session of the legislature.
