Harare, (New Ziana) – Zanu PF First Secretary President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged the committee organising the forthcoming 23rd party National People’s Conference to ensure that all preparations are completed on time.
The conference is scheduled to take place in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West province, from 12 to 17 October, with about 7 000 delegates expected to attend.
Addressing a Politburo meeting in Harare on Wednesday, President Mnangagwa commended party officials for their efforts and called on the conference coordination committee to maintain momentum ahead of the gathering.
“I exhort the National Conference Coordination Committee led by the National Chairman and host province of Mashonaland West to ensure that all preparatory efforts are timely concluded. The Conference enjoins us to move beyond the mere adoption of Resolutions towards their concrete implementation. I commend the Politburo secretaries and Government departments for the positive attitude towards impactful results. This should be sustained so that Party Resolutions remain instruments for advancing socio-economic development and accelerating the attainment of Vision 2030,” he said.
He said protecting Zimbabweans from the effects of climate change should remain a priority as the country pursues its national development agenda.
President Mnangagwa said the government had approved a six-pillar Drought Mitigation Plan in response to forecasts of below-normal rainfall during the 2026/27 agricultural season.
“This includes measures to enhance strategic grain reserves, accelerate grain imports and mobilise financing for food sovereignty. The party, through our grassroots structures, must prepare communities and summon the strong communal national character trait towards securing lives and livelihoods, including those of vulnerable households,” he said.
Turning to the economy, President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe’s improved international economic standing, including its removal from negative classifications, would assist in strengthening investor confidence and creating a more favourable environment for domestic and foreign investment.
He cited the opening of Ecobank Zimbabwe’s new head office in Harare, representing a US$24 million investment, as evidence of growing confidence in the economy.
“Under the ZANU PF led government, capital is safe in Zimbabwe. The opening of the new Ecobank Zimbabwe Head Office in Harare, representing a US$24 million investment, is yet another positive testament to the confidence which investors and global financial institutions have in our economy. In addition, my recent engagement with American business magnates and industrialists, at the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting, reflects the success of the ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ and the engagement and re-engagement policies,” he said.
President Mnangagwa also urged party structures to regard challenges as opportunities to mobilise communities and advance the country’s development aspirations.
He urged party structures to facilitate access to, and implementation of government programs while maintaining what he described as a progressive and revolutionary national outlook.
“The progressive and revolutionary mindset that continues to characterise our national events must continue to be the glue that unites our people at every level. Further, our gatherings should remain a clarion call for action, to aim higher, think outside the box and build a greater Zimbabwe from the foundations of our own rich historical heritage,” he said.
