President Mnangagwa urges Zimbabweans to remain peaceful

Harare (New Ziana) – President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday urged the public to maintain the peaceful atmosphere in the post-election period, and contribute towards re-building the country.

Speaking a day after being declared winner of Wednesday’s general election, he said there was no winner or loser in the vote.

President-elect Mnangagwa shrugged off a challenge from ten other presidential aspirants to win the vote by 52.6 percent.

He said the calm and peaceful environment which characterised the campaign should continue to prevail.
“At the outset, I want to congratulate the nation for our peaceful conduct before, during and after the election processes.
“Fellow Zimbabweans; In this post-election period that we are now entering, let us remain vigilant and jealously guard the prevailing peaceful and tranquil environment. That which unites us is much greater than that which could ever divide us,” he said.

He commended Zimbabweans for turning out in large numbers to vote , saying it was proof that Zimbabwe is a mature democracy.
“ I thus, commend the nation, across all provinces for the huge turnout in exercising this sacred right to vote.
“ As a people of Zimbabwe, we have demonstrated that we are a mature democracy. In line with our Constitution, we are collectively deepening and entrenching constitutionalism, the rule of law and good governance in
our beloved, motherland.
“That which unites us is much greater than that which could ever divide us. I call on us all call to return to work, with a greater sense of purpose of production and productivity across all sectors.”

According to ZEC, voter turnout stood at 68.9 percent, with a total of 6 623 511 having registered to vote.

He congratulated all the national institutions involved in the conduct of election, inparticular the independent, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission for managing the whole election process.
He thanked Zimbabweans for voting for him to return for a second and final term as the President.
“The elections have come and gone. I am humbled by the trust and confidence that you my fellow country men and women have reposed on me, to once again serve as President of our great country, Zimbabwe.
“There is much more work to be done. Together, as one united people we shall continue on the growth trajectory witnessed over the last five years, no one and no place will be left behind.
“I thank most heartly all those who contested in these elections, in particular the Presidential Candidates.
“There are no winners or losers; but one united people of Zimbabwe. Thus far, we have shamed our detractors who wished to see us divided and in turmoil,” he said.

President Mnangagwa urged all citizens to focus on hard work in rebuilding the Zimbabwe everyone wants.
“I further call on us all to return to work with a greater sense of purpose towards increased production and productivity across all sectors. We are a hardworking people and more success is ahead, as we accelerate the attainment ofVision 2030, guided by our philosophy, Nyika inovakwa, igotongwa, igonamatigwa nevene vayo. Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhu-le-kelwe ngabanikazi halo,” he said.
