MARONDERA — A helicopter believed to be carrying businessman Wicknell Chivayo reportedly went down near Marondera on Wednesday evening.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that an aircraft crashed in the Marondera Rural area at around 5 p.m., with six people reportedly on board.
The government also confirmed the fatal helicopter crash.
“The government wishes to confirm that a helicopter crash has occurred, involving one high-profile businessman, three other passengers, and two pilots. Current information indicates that there were no survivors,” said Ndavaningi Mangwana, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.
He said the police will confirm the names of the victims.
“We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the victims, their families, and their friends during this difficult time,” Mangwana added.
The police said officers and emergency personnel were attending the crash site and that further details were expected to follow.
