Harare, (New Ziana) -The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) has launched an investigation into the abandonment of the match between FC Platinum and Dynamos FC at Mandava Stadium on Sunday.
In a statement, the PSL confirmed that it is awaiting match officials’ reports, including that of referee Quedisani Dirwai, to make a determination in line with league rules and regulations.
Both FC Platinum and Dynamos have also been asked to submit written reports detailing the events that led to the abandonment.
The PSL strongly condemned any acts of misconduct that result in matches being abandoned, warning that those found guilty will face the full penalties prescribed in the league’s regulations.
“The PSL regrets any inconvenience caused to its members, stakeholders and partners,” it said.
Played at Mandava Stadium the home ground of FC Platinum, the match was called off in the 75th minute after Dynamos players walked off the pitch, protesting a penalty awarded to FC Platinum, with the score 1-1 at the time.
Dynamos had taken an early lead through Vusa Ngwenya before FC Platinum equalised in the 49th minute via Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya.
The turning point came late in the second half when referee Dirwai awarded a penalty to FC Platinum, ruling that Dynamos captain Emmanuel Jalai had fouled Oscar Bhebhe inside the box. Dynamos players strongly disputed the decision and walked off the pitch, leading to the match’s abandonment.
Dirwai has faced criticism in recent weeks, having also officiated a match between Scotland FC and Chicken Inn FC where another late penalty decision led to the match being abandoned.
