Rains destroy Hwange roads

Hwange, (New Ziana) – The heavy rains experienced in Matebeleland North this rain season have left 150 kilometers of roads destroyed in the province, officials have said.

Acting provincial District Development Fund (DDF) coordinator, Jacob Ndlovu said some areas in the province had been rendered inaccessible after rains destroyed roads.

“We want to repair the roads which were destroyed by the rains, we will start with repairing roads that link the districts and then roads which are in the remote parts of the province so that the villagers have access to services,” he said.

Ndlovu, who was speaking during a tour of the St Mary’s-Luseche road on the border between Binga and Hwange districts, said DDF was keen to ensure roads were quickly repaired to guarantee passage to medical facilities in the current times of Covid-19.

“With this COVID-19, we need to make sure that villagers are able to access medical services wherever they are, ambulances need to move safely on these roads,” he said.

He said ZINARA had allocated $10 million for the refurbishment of the roads in the province, but needed $150 million to fully repair all damaged roads.
