Redcliff (New Ziana)- Redcliff town municipality has re-elected Citizen for Coalition Change (CCC) Ward 3 councillor Clayton Masiyatsva mayor for a second term, while Kwekwe Ward 10 councillor and former Health Minister Henry Madzorera was elected the city’s mayor unopposed.

Masiyatsva beat ruling Zanu PF party candidate, councillor Josephine Mutamangira.

Redcliff municipality has nine wards which were all won by CCC party. Three Zanu PF councillors came through the women’s quota after CCC failed to field Proportional Representative candidates in the August 23 harmonised elections.

Councillor Shangwa Masiyiwa was re-elected Redcliff deputy mayor’s uncontested.

Mayor Masiyatsva pledged to address the perennial water challenges in Redcliff and to complete projects left behind in his last term in office.

“Our main focus and priority is water. I am sure all of us as residents we are facing water challenges. As councillors, we will work hard to provide you with water. We will also look at outstanding projects from the previous council especially housing projects in Millenium Park, Rutendo Extension and other housing schemes. We will make sure the projects are completed. The issue of street lights in low density areas will also be addressed,” he said.

“On workers’ salaries, I want to challenge you Town Clerk (Gilson Chakauya) to deliver. Salary arrears must be a thing of the past. Work with your management team such that employees get their salaries timeously. The main road to Torwood from Ziscosteel to Batanai is not complete and residents are suffering from dust pollution,” he said.

Meanwhile, Madzorera is now the new City of Kwekwe Mayor after he was elected unopposed.

The former Health Minister will be deputized by Ward 5 and former deputy mayor, Alderman Melody Chingarande. She was elected uncontested.

CCC has 16 out of 18 councillors in Kwekwe.

In his acceptance speech, Madzorera called for unity of purpose from all stakeholders in order to tackle corruption and work towards service delivery in the city.

“We should set aside party politics and work together towards service delivery. Service delivery knows no political party,” he said.
