Redcliff requires $28m for devolution projects

Redcliff (New Ziana) – The Municipality of Redcliff requires about ZWL $28 million in devolution funding to complete various projects it had earmarked, a top municipal official has said.

Most of the projects were in the water and sanitation and health sectors, the latter to adequately deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The local authority has this year received a total of ZWL $3.1 million in devolution funding, which it used mainly to complete development projects from last year.

In a report on devolution funding, Redcliff Town Clerk Gilson Chakauya said the local authority required ZWL $10 971 314 for on going projects, and ZWL $17 027 972 for new ones.

He said the Covid-19 pandemic forced Redcliff to channel 42 percent of devolution funding it had received to set up an isolation centre.

Out of the balance, 36 percent went towards the construction of a 2km, 110 mm water pipeline for the supply of water to Simbi Park residential area that was experiencing acute water challenges.

“The funding has mainly been utilized to implement projects in the water and sanitation sector, public lightning and in the provision of primary health care,” Chakauya said.

He said the municipality still required USD 205 379 for public lightning and infrastructure repairs in Rutendo, Torwood and Redcliff suburbs.

“The Municipality looks forward to receiving the funding for these critical projects for socio-economic development and improvement in the general well-being of the residents and stakeholders of Redcliff,” he said.

In 2019, Redcliff received a total of ZWL$5 870 000, which was used to undertake 12 projects, of which seven were completed and five were carried over to this year.
