Bulawayo, (New Ziana) – The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development said on Monday there will be interruptions to the traffic flow on the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls owing to the commencement this week of major road rehabilitation works.
from Monday(today) all traffic along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls will be diverted to designated detours to allow for essential rehabilitation and upgrading works.
In a statement, the Ministry said traffic will be diverted to designated detours on many points along the highway, and starting Monday, the road will closed from Bulawayo Central Business District to Livingstone Bridge until the end of the month.
The first phase of construction, the Ministry added, will focus on the section between the 99,6 km peg to 104,6 km peg.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development wishes to inform the public that starting Monday 14 July, traffic along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls will be diverted to designated detours to allow for essential rehabilitation and upgrading works.
“To facilitate construction, a temporary road closure will be in effect from Bulawayo CBD to Livingstone Bridge beginning July 14 2025 until July 31 2026. The first phase of construction will focus on the section between Chainage 99,6km and 104,6km Insuza area,” said the Ministry.
Speaking at the just ended two-day Shipping and Forwarding Agency Association of Zimbabwe 19th Annual Conference in Bulwayo, Transport and Infrastructure Development Felix Mhona said the 435km Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road would be done by local contractors and is expected to create over 2 000 jobs.
“This 435 km road stretch would be done by local contractors and we hope to complete in record time, hopefully by next year we will be done. It’s a key road for us and for logistics purposes and tourism,” he said.
He said the rehabilitated road will significantly improve regional connectivity and boost tourism and regional trade.
Over 2 000 jobs are expected to be created during the construction.
