THE battle for Castle Lager Premier Soccer League survival has taken another dramatic twist, with Triangle United moving a place up the table, Manica Diamonds dropping to the foot of the standings, and Agama FC breathing down FC Hunters’ necks after Matchday 28.
Triangle United are now 17th with 19 points, moving above Manica Diamonds on goal difference after the Mutare side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Agama FC. Manica remain on 19 points but have a significantly inferior goal difference of -29 compared to Triangle’s -16.
For Agama, the victory was priceless.
The three points lifted Agama to 25 points, leaving them just three points behind FC Hunters, who occupy 14th place on 28 points. With the relegation battle entering its decisive stages, Agama now have a realistic opportunity to pull themselves clear of danger.
Agama’s victory, however, came at the expense of Manica Diamonds, who are increasingly finding themselves in a desperate fight for survival.
TelOne’s situation is equally concerning. The WiFi Boys suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to high-flying Hardrock FC, a result that left them stranded in 16th place with 20 points. The loss was particularly painful given the contrasting objectives of the two Midlands sides — Hardrock are chasing the championship, while TelOne are fighting to retain their top-flight status. The 4-1 scoreline is also confirmed in current PSL results data.
Hardrock’s victory took them to 57 points, keeping them just one point behind leaders Scottland FC, while TelOne remain only one point ahead of Triangle United.
The gap between Hunters and Triangle is therefore just nine points, while Agama’s latest victory means the promoted side can no longer be written off as relegation certainties.
For Triangle and Manica, the situation is becoming increasingly urgent. Both clubs have 19 points, but Triangle’s superior goal difference has temporarily given it the edge.
With the title race grabbing much of the attention at the top, the drama at the bottom promises to be equally compelling. Every remaining fixture now carries enormous weight, with Agama chasing Hunters, TelOne fighting to stay above the drop zone, and Triangle and Manica desperately searching for a late-season revival.
The relegation battle is wide open — and there may be very little separating survival from heartbreak when the final whistle eventually sounds.
