Renamo leader sacks party secretary-general

Share

Maputo (AIM New Ziana) -Mozambique’s main opposition party Renamo leader, Ossufo Momade has sacked secretary-general André Magibire.

No reasons were given for the dismissal.

A former private secretary to the late Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama, and member of the Assembly of the Republic, the Mozambican Parliament, Magibire was dismissed last Monday, but the announced was only formally made last Friday.

A copy of the press release sent to AIM only stated that “the present order shall take immediate effect”.

Asked about the development, a source from Renamo said there was nothing wrong, as it was a normal process to revive party structures.

As for the new replacement, the source said the candidate was yet to be named.

The same source explained that according to Renamo statutes, Momad had the powers to put forward a new candidate, who would have to be ratified by the party National Council.

“In the meantime, it is too premature to advance any names,” the source said.

Magibire had been serving as Renamo secretary general since April 2019 and replaced Manuel Bissopo, who was dismissed in January of the same year by Momade.
