KADOMA – THE maternity block under construction in Rimuka, Kadoma’s oldest high-density area is
80 percent complete.
Telegraph toured the new maternity block in the company of Kadoma Deputy Mayor and Ward 6
Councillor, Tendai Kokera, to appreciate what it will look like, when it is finally opened at the end of
December 2022.
Kadoma Deputy Mayor Kokera said the negative coverage by various media platforms nearly tarnished
her relationship with the city Director of Finance, Faustina Zhou, since most of the stories were negative
narratives.
She added that whenever there is an argument there are several ways of engaging each other for progress
that is why the Kadoma female Councillor had to petition the management to show how serious they
were when representing women’s rights.
There are around 20 construction workers on the site every day, working in shifts between 8am and
4:30pm.
Electricians were chiseling walls for electrical cabling.
Rimuka Maternity Home is the biggest council health infrastructure in the history of Kadoma, which
stated as a railway station in 1901.
The current building at Rimuka Maternity Home is small to accommodate the required number of
expecting mothers for such a densely populated city.
Construction work resumed last year after it had gone for close to a year at a standstill.
Rimuka is the Kadoma’s oldest high-density area. It is overcrowded and needed a much bigger
facility, which can accommodate and offer health services to more expecting mothers.
