A suspected robber, part of a three-men gang that allegedly stole over US$8 000 and other valuables from a Chitungwiza home last December, has died from police gunshot wounds sustained after trying to evade arrest.
Police national spokesperson, assistant commissioner, Paul Nyathi said Godfrey Njoromore (48) was shot by detectives at the weekend in Chitungwiza and died on admission at Parirenyatwa Group of hospitals.
He is suspected to have been part of a three-member gang of robbers that pounced on a Zengeza home in December and allegedly stole US$8 164, laptops, solar lights, cellphones and other valuables.
One of the suspected robbers was apprehended by members of the public during the robbery, and gave away Njoromore to police, leading to the raid on his home.
“On 6th January 2024, detectives from CID Homicide acted on received information and trekked Godfrey Njoromore to Nyatsime, Chitungwiza where he was shot on the thigh after trying to evade arrest. Subsequently,
Godfrey Njoromore was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he died upon admission,” Nyathi said.
Some of the goods that had been stolen from the Zengeza home were recovered after the arrest of one of the suspected robbers.
