MUTARE – Rubi Adam, the talented young equestrian is set to represent Zimbabwe at the prestigious Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Children’s Classics competition in Mexico.

This remarkable achievement comes after Rubi qualified for the finals, where she will compete against some of the best young riders from around the world.

At just 14 years old, Rubi has already made a name for herself in the equestrian community, ranking third in Africa and 14th globally among her peers. Her journey in horse riding began at the tender age of four, and she quickly developed a passion for the sport. By the time she was seven, she had started competing, showcasing her natural talent and dedication.

“She has been horse riding since she was four years old and started competing when she was seven years old. This is her first time competing for Zimbabwe but she competed in Jakarta Indonesia in 2022 and 2023 and won a number of competitions,” said Rubi’s father, Tarik Adam who is also Quest Motors director.

Her success on the international stage has provided her with invaluable experience and exposure, preparing her for the challenges ahead in Mexico.

Locally, Rubi has also made significant strides. In September, she was awarded the Reserve Champion in the 1.10m Junior class at the Zimbabwe Equestrian Federation’s National Championships.

Her performance at this event was instrumental in securing her place in the FEI Gold Tour, which she won in October, ultimately qualifying her to represent Zimbabwe at the finals in Mexico.

Equestrian sports encompass a variety of competitive events, including dressage, show jumping, and hunter trails. Each discipline requires a unique set of skills, and Rubi has excelled in show jumping, demonstrating remarkable precision and control in her riding. Her ability to connect with her horse, combined with her competitive spirit, has set her apart from her peers.

Rubi’s participation in the FEI Children’s Classics is not just a personal achievement; it also represents a significant milestone for equestrian sports in Zimbabwe.

Provincial Sports Officer in Manicaland, Clifford Mujoko said equestrian sports were not yet registered with the Sports and Recreation Commission as this is a sport that is still being moulded from grassroots.

“We are pleased to have one of our own representing us and raising the Zimbabwean flag. This is an elite sport that is being amplified at grass root level and it is the likes of Rubi we would want on board to train her peers for the sport to gain popularity,” he said.

Rubi’s success inspires other young riders and highlights the potential for growth within the sport in the country. The support from her family, local equestrian organisations, and the community has been instrumental in her journey, providing her with the resources and encouragement needed to pursue her passion.

With her sights set on the competition, she is ready to showcase her skills and represent Zimbabwe on the international stage. The upcoming event promises to be an exciting opportunity for Rubi, as she competes for glory and shares her love for equestrian sports with the world.
