    Rutenga man fined for hoarding fuel

    Mwenezi (Masvingo Star/New Ziana) -A 33 year old man from Rutenga in the Mwenezi district of Masvingo province was on Monday fined $150 or alternatively four months imprisonment for storing more than 200 litres of diesel in a shop without a licence.

    Magistrate Honest Musiiwa convicted Victor Jakobusi of 187 Rutenga on his own plea for contravening sections of the Environmental Management Act related to the “Unlawful storage of hazardous substances.

    The charges arose from an incident in which Jakobusi was found in unlawful possession of hazardous substances, being 240 litres of diesel in plastic containers leading to his arrest.

    The State case was that on June 8 this year around 10AM, police at Rutenga received a tip off that Jakobusi was storing fuel without a license.

    The police tracked him down and on arrival at Chihomura Shop, Rutenga Business Centre they searched and found 240 litres of diesel in plastic containers hidden in the shop.
