The government has reiterated its call for schools to desist from withholding results for students who have not paid fees in full as it is against its policy, an official has said.
Primary and Secondary Education permanent secretary Mike Mhike said this on the sidelines of a media briefing to announce the 2023 Ordinary Level results in the capital on Monday.
“We have always been saying when we come to examinations, the contract is between ZIMSEC and the candidate, and there is no way where the school comes in, in terms of withholding the results,” he said.
He said his Ministry will continue to outline the position that it is against government policy for school authorities to withhold examination results.
Mhike paid tribute to the media for continuously highlighting cases where schools were violating government policy.
“I am also happy to say we have been getting a lot of feedback from you colleagues from the media fraternity who have even been telling us names of schools and we have gone in there to carry out our own investigations and we have taken appropriate action,” he said.
He said during the tours they carried out with the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education throughout the country recently, they have been emphasising that violating government policies attracts disciplinary action.
