BINDURA residents were left stunned after a 27-year-old kombi driver and self-styled prophet raped a 25-year-old Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) student at Ran Mine Mountain.

Bindura Magistrate Elisha Singano found Mallon Masora guilty of the rape charges after a full trial and overwhelming evidence. He was sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison, sending a clear message that perpetrators of gender-based violence will be held accountable.

Masora was represented by Advocate Mawodza of Mugiya Legal Practitioners of Harare.

According to court papers presented by Public Prosecutor Clever Nyapfani, the incident happened on November 21, 2025, at around 6 pm when Masora forced himself on the complainant without her consent.

The ordeal began in early November when the complainant boarded a kombi and sat in the front seat. Masora allegedly asked her if she believed in prophets, and she said she partly believed. The kombi driver then claimed that he had “seen visions” concerning her life.

The two then exchanged mobile numbers.

On November 21, 2025, the complainant went to Ran Mine after the accused directed her to what he described as his shrine. Upon arrival, he instructed her to fetch fresh milk and a clay bowl, and she complied.

Masora reportedly began “prophesying” about her personal life, and the complainant acknowledged that some of the statements made by the accused were true. The situation took a frightening turn when he claimed that her boyfriend had “installed something in her stomach” during their last sexual encounter and insisted he needed to remove it.

He ordered her to lie down and then went on to rape her.

The matter came to light after the complainant reported the incident to her sister. A police report was filed, leading to Masora’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
